Variations

For steeped grains plus malt extract:

  • Delete the Pilsner, Munich, and Vienna malt lines.
  • For liquid malt extract, add sugar: Liquid pilsner or light malt extract, 95, 5, 76
  • For dry malt extract, add sugar: Dry light malt extract, 95, 3.5, 96
  • Set the mash efficiency variable to 55% (eff: 55) for steeping.

Notes

Czech pilsners need a soft water, low in carbonates and sulfates.

This recipe was designed for skipping the traditional decoction mash. If a decoction mash is done, replace most or all of the specialty malt with pilsner malt. This would be deleting the Munich, Vienna, and Carapils lines, then changing the pilsner malt percentage from 80 to 100%.

Note that this assumes a 90 minute boil.
